It is with great excitement and honor to have joined the Dallas Center –Grimes Community School District. Since this is my first year with the district, I would like you to be able to get to know me on a personal and professional level.
I grew up in Buffalo Center, IA, which is approximately the same size as Dallas Center. Throughout my high school years, academics were a top priority for me, but I was also an athlete, playing basketball, volleyball and softball. I still enjoy playing in recreational leagues around the area! After high school, I attended the University of Northern Iowa. During my four years at UNI, I majored in elementary education and minored in special education.
Upon college graduation, I accepted a special education teacher position with Des Moines Public Schools. I taught for four years. The past two years I have been the South Region Curriculum Facilitator for Des Moines Public Schools. In 2006, I decided to begin my Masters in Education with a major in Principalship and in 2008, I received my Masters from the University of Northern Iowa.
I currently reside in Grimes with my husband, Dr. Nicholas Nerem, and my one-year-old daughter, Mya. As a family, we love going for walks, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with our family and friends.
One of my first priorities as the Dallas Center Elementary Principal is to seek understanding from staff, parents and students. In addition, I firmly believe in communicating with the public about what is occurring at school. The Home and School Connection is a weekly newsletter that is sent home with each child as one means to reach this goal. With open and constant communication, we can help to build the success of every child.
In summary, I have an uncompromising desire to serve families, students and teachers. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with you to empower the students at DC Elementary to take charge of their futures!
