Employee & Family Resources (EFR)

Employee & Family Resources (EFR) offers a Student Assistance Program (SAP) designed to assist students, families and schools with a wide variety of personal and family issues that can impact student behavior and achievement. SAP provides support to students and their families through in-person counseling, telephone counseling as well as written and online resources.

When to Call the SAP:
Call the SAP for issues that interfere with your daily activities, happiness, family stability or overall wellbeing. Some of the topics a SAP counselor can help you with are:

  • School performance
  • Stress
  • Confusion
  • Trouble with peers
  • Alcohol and other drug problems
  • Eating disorders
  • Problem gambling concerns
  • Dating and relationship issues
  • Conflict, bullying or violence
  • Depression or suicidal thoughts
  • Family concerns

Eligible Participants
Clinical services (counseling) is available to all students and family members.

In-Person Appointments
Counseling is proved by Masters level counselors experienced in working with children and families at three locations:

  • Downtown Des Moines
  • Ankeny
  • West Des Moines

Daytime and evening appointments are offered. Clients will be offered up to six sessions per year, per separate issue for problem assessment and short-term counseling as well as referrals to additional resources if needed.

Telephone Consultation
Counselors are accessible by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Their counselors provide support for many issues including family or relationship issues, emotional concerns, stress and other issues that you or your family member may be facing.

Cultural Diversity & Language
SAP offers counseling services in Spanish and interpreting services in American Sign Language at no cost to the family.
