My name is Jerry Hlas and I am honored to serve as the principal at DCG Middle School in Dallas Center, Iowa. This is my fifteenth year as a principal at DCG and my 31st year in education.
I earned my BA in K-6 Elementary Education and Sports Administration at Simpson College with a minor in mathematics. A few years later, I earned my administrative degree at Drake University.
I was a teacher/coach for sixteen years ranging from fifth to ninth grade classrooms as a teacher and coaching middle school and high school athletics. All of those roles prepared me for new responsibilities and challenges in my current role as a principal.
On a personal note, I am married (Christina) and have four adult children (Philip, Abbie, Emily and Sam). When not working at the middle school you can find me fishing, golfing, reading, exercising, watching movies, and spending time with family.
Bringing grades 5 and 6 together has been a challenging yet rewarding experience for me personally. I am so encouraged and inspired by the middle school staff and students. I am looking forward to leading and learning in the years to come.
