South Prairie Elementary Principal
My name is Patty Morris and I am proud to serve as principal of South Prairie Elementary. My family and I moved to Grimes from Corning, where I served as principal for the 12 years. I have been in education for more than 25 years, teaching every grade level from 1st-8th grade. I have been in several rural districts in Iowa, as well as the very urban Prince William County, Virginia, as my husband was stationed near there as a Marine. This gives me a wealth of experiences that have helped mold me into the person I am today. I received my bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, with a double major in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I later obtained my Masters in Administration through Iowa State University.
My husband, Vilas, is a machinist with Marine Corps training. We have three children, Krista, Cody, and Garrett. Garrett is the only one still at home, and he is in 8th grade at DC-G this year.
I am thrilled to be a part of this amazing district. The staff are all very dedicated professionals who truly believe all children can learn and will do whatever it takes to help them be successful. They collaborate daily as they work to meet the needs of each individual. I feel so very blessed to be a part of this community and am so grateful this is where my path has led.
