Dallas Center-Grimes CSD is excited to announce that Madison Melchert has been named the next DCG Activities Director.
Melchert has an unmatched passion for DCG and we are excited to welcome her home. Melchert graduated from DCG High School in 2014. She also served our district as Assistant Activities Director from 2019-2022.
“I’ve dreamed about this moment for my entire professional life,” Melchert says. “This isn’t just a job for me. This is a career-defining moment in a school district that has given me so much. I’m proud to be a Mustang!”
She participated in multiple extracurricular activities during her time as a student with the Mustangs. Melchert (Waymire) was a state champion runner for the DCG Cross Country team, taking the crown in 2011.
After her high school graduation, Melchert earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sports and Recreation Management from the University of Iowa. She was also a member of the University of Iowa Track and Field/Cross Country team.
Melchert currently serves as an assistant director at the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. She coordinates three statewide competitions and leads the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for the IGHSAU.
“What a special day for our entire district,” says Dr. Scott Blum, DCG CSD Superintendent. “She has a passion for students and a passion for DCG. Nearly 86% of our students participate in at least one extracurricular activity. I’m so excited they will have a leader like Madison working alongside their journey at DCG.”
Melchert’s first day at DCG will be July 1, 2025. She will work with current DCG Activities Director Brent Buttjer this spring. Buttjer will retire on June 30, 2025.
DCG received interest in this position from an impressive pool of leaders coming from across the Midwest. Melchert was one of five final candidates for this position. She interviewed in front of an interview team of administrators, coaches, directors, parents and students last week.
“DCG holds a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to serve the incredible people in this community.”
