About South Prairie Elementary
Welcome to South Prairie Elementary! South Prairie opened in 1988 and is one of four elementary schools in the Dallas Center-Grimes Community School District. We are located at 500 S James Street in Grimes, Iowa. Our school serves students in Optional Kindergarten through fourth grade. South Prairie is home to approximately 430 students.
At South Prairie Elementary, we place student learning and helping each child take charge of their future as our primary focus. With our strong emphasis on meeting the needs of all students through differentiated instruction and research-based practices, students at South Prairie are accountable for their learning and are proud to see their progress.
South Prairie staff are dedicated to professional growth & development as they regularly collaborate in professional learning communities (PLC’s), aimed at continuous improvement in the areas of teaching and learning. Our District Model guides our teachers’ work in the classroom by focusing on the 3 C’s:

Our District-Wide Areas of Focus allow us to achieve the 3 C’s and put our model into action.

Our school offers additional support services in the areas of Special Education, Extended Learning Program, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and American Sign Language (ASL).
