Dallas Center-Grimes is excited to announce that Adam Tjeerdsma has been selected as the next Heritage Elementary Principal. Tjeerdsma’s contract was approved by the DCG CSD School Board on February 23.
Tjeerdsma has spent 16 years serving students in Dallas Center-Grimes. He spent 14 years as a classroom teacher at North Ridge Elementary, followed by two years as a curriculum facilitator. Tjeerdsma is currently an associate principal at Perry Elementary School.
“The Tjeerdsma family is a big fan of Dallas Center-Grimes CSD. We have three children in this district and see firsthand how incredible this district truly is,” Tjeerdsma says. “Heritage Elementary is a leader in student achievement and staff development. I’m so excited to join this team and build on our incredible legacy.”
Adam earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Wartburg College and later completed a Master of Arts: Educational Administration at the University of Northern Iowa. In addition to his work at Dallas Center-Grimes and Perry, Adam has experience in the Benton Community School District and St. Francis of Assisi in West Des Moines.
“I’ve known Adam Tjeerdsma for more than a decade. His passion for public education and serving students is at his core,” shares Dr. Scott Blum, DCG CSD Superintendent. “Under Adam’s leadership, Heritage Elementary will continue to create incredible opportunities for our students and staff.”
Tjeerdsma was one of six finalists for this position and was selected after interviewing with district and building educators.
Tjeerdsma’s first official day at Heritage will be July 1, 2026. He will work collaboratively with the current Heritage Principal, Diann Williamson, to make this transition as smooth as possible. Williamson is planning to retire after an incredible career in public education on June 30, 2026.
