Soccer Success at DCG

May 11, 2023

The champs are taking aim at number two.

“The target on our back is a lot bigger,” says senior Maya Fritz.  “We get everybody’s best shot.”

This is a welcome opportunity for the girls in red and white.

“We are coming back state champs and we want to do that again,” shares senior Elena Bartak. “So we work our butts off and we try to win every single game.”

Winning soccer games at DCG is becoming a theme. The girls are conference champs. The boys are conference champs. Now they are both taking aim at the state’s highest prize.

“I think it’s so strong because we really focus on just giving it your all and really putting in the effort,” says Bartak.

Now the Mustangs are pushing to the postseason, the most important part of their year.

“If we count on another person, they know that same exact person is going to have their back no matter what,” says Bartak.  “If we can keep building on that, we can do it.”

No matter what happens in the next few weeks, the state of DCG girls soccer is strong. The seniors have a lot to be proud of.

“I’m officially signing off when the season is done,” says Fritz.  “I’m pretty proud of where I’ve been with the team and where I’m leaving the team.”

“If I can just spread the positivity and love around to the team, I think they will take it and do the same,” adds Bartak.

DCG is the top seed in the Class 2A Region 2 bracket. Their first postseason game will be Tuesday, May 23 against the winner of Perry and Carroll. Click here to see the bracket.
