My name is Joan Cundiff and I have the privilege of serving Oak View as the principal.  2023-24 is my second year with Dallas Center-Grimes and my 18th year in education.  

 

I received my Bachelors degree from Drake University in 2005 with a double major of Secondary Teacher Education and English.  In 2017, I received my Master of Science in Education in Culturally Responsive Leadership and Instruction, also from Drake University.  During my time earning my Masters, I was encouraged to continue my education and look towards administration.  I received my Specialist degree in Education Leadership from Drake University in 2019.  I have set a goal to earn a Doctorate in the next couple of years. 

 

My journey in education has provided me with many different experiences that have shaped me into the educator that I am today.  I have taught all grades and levels of high school English, coached various sports, and served on leadership teams. I have also been an instructional coach and associate principal.  Each role served to prepare me for principalship.  

 

On a personal note, I will be getting married in October, 2023. I have three amazing daughters (ages 7, 9, and 11)  and Mike, my fiance, has two wonderful children (ages 15 and 20).   We enjoy going on adventures as often as possible, and we also love finding new restaurants to try.    

 

Oak View has an amazing staff who love teaching and supporting students.  It’s been a great place to be, and I look forward to all that we do together as school and community.
