DCG High School Junior Genevieve Bryan is getting ready to make history! In August, Bryan will be traveling to France as a foreign exchange student, the first-ever DCG High School student to participate in this experience.
Bryan, a member of the DCG High School Class of 2027, will return to DCG ahead of next year’s commencement ceremony.
“I’ve always loved France and the French language, so I’m excited to become fluent in the language when I’m over there,” Bryan says.
Bryan is currently finishing her junior year at DCG, but because she will be overseas next school year, she needs to finish her course requirements in the 2025-26 school year.
“I started planning for this experience as an 8th grader,” she says. “It’s been a different experience because it’s been go-go-go this year.”
In addition to her educational goals, Bryan hopes to build lifelong friendships and immerse herself in French culture. She also has one adventure high on her list: skiing in the French Alps.
Bryan will walk with her DCG classmates in May of 2027, before enrolling at Iowa State University. She plans to minor in French to keep building on her international experience.
While some nerves come with being the first DCG student to study abroad in this way, Bryan says excitement outweighs everything else.
“A little girl from Iowa is going all the way to France,” Bryan said. It’s pretty cool.”
