Leaving a Legacy – DCG Custodian Celebrates 30 Years on the Job

Joe Edmondson

It’s the middle of a busy summer for DCG Custodian Joe Edmondson.

“This is an important job,” says Edmondson. “It’s one that I still enjoy. That’s why I’m still here even though I could be retired.”

For the last 30 years, Custodian Joe has dedicated his time and talents to our district.

“This is the school that gave me a chance,” shares Edmondson. “I always assume that since I’ve been here so long, I’ve been doing something right.”

So far this summer Joe has touched nearly every inch of South Prairie Elementary. On August 23, he’ll have the building ready.

“That makes a difference when you know who you are doing it for,” he adds. “The teachers and the kids.”

Even after graduating from DCG, many of our students remember Custodian Joe and the difference he makes every day.

“I saw a former student at B-Bop’s and I reminded him of the game we used to play,” says Edmondson. “He remembered me, so that’s kind of special when they remember you for little things.”

Those little things can sometimes turn into big things. The DCG Volleyball team participated in a Gratitude Project during the 2023-24 school year.  Members of the team honored staff members who impacted their DCG journey, Custodian Joe was on the list.

“That’s the biggest joy that I get out of this work,” says Edmondson. “I wouldn’t have been here for more than 29 years if I didn’t like that.”

When August 23rd rolls around you can count on all seven of our buildings to be ready. We have an incredible team of custodians, just like Joe, doing everything in their power to make this the best year yet.

“I really like it when the students come back, especially if I’ve done a good job and I know it,” says Edmondson.
